Press Release: LSA Welcomes New Trustees

Legal Services Agency is delighted to welcome two new Trustees to our Board of Directors: Stuart McWilliams and Dr Douglas Jack. The Trustees join LSA at an exciting time as we approach 35 years of LSA’s contributions in challenging systemic failures, and protecting and improving legal rights.

Coming from legal practice and academia, the new Trustees bring invaluable skills and experience, as well as an overriding commitment to increasing access to justice, complementing the expertise of the existing Trustees.

Barrie Levine, Chair of LSA, said: “We are really pleased and excited to welcome two new Directors to the Board, Stuart McWilliams and Dr Douglas Jack. Both Stuart and Douglas bring a wealth of legal and academic experience which will be of real benefit to LSA as we continue to develop our services, and provide essential high-quality legal support to some of the most marginalised people in our communities.  We look forward to working with our new Directors to further enhance our legal support, strategic capacity and governance structures.”

Stuart is a qualified solicitor and Partner at Morton Fraser MacRoberts LLP, with over 15 years of post-qualification experience. He is an accredited specialist in immigration law and has a diverse professional background that includes roles in the Scottish Government, a law centre, and private practice. Stuart has previously served as the Convenor of the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Law subcommittee. Driven by a passion for ensuring access to justice, he has a strong understanding of the impact law centres have on communities. Stuart is dedicated to using his experience to make a meaningful difference.

Douglas is an academic working in the field of constitutional and human rights law at the University of Strathclyde. He has a deep interest in access to justice and the connections between human rights, poverty, and inequality. His research and teaching align closely with LSA’s mission, exploring critical questions about constitutional design, fostering a culture of human rights, and widening access to justice. Douglas serves on the Steering Group of the Glasgow Human Rights Network. Douglas is passionate about experiential legal education and leads a pioneering legal work placement module for undergraduates—the first of its kind among Scottish law schools.

Legal Services Agency is looking forward to continuing to uphold and improve the rights of people experiencing disadvantage with the essential support and strategic direction of our Board.
