Would you like to help tackle inequality and advance social justice? Join LSA’s Board of Directors as a Trustee and play a vital role in shaping the future of one of Scotland’s leading law centres. Our Trustees provide strategic leadership, governance and oversight, helping us deliver our mission and maximise our impact. This is a particularly exciting time to join the Board as we begin delivering our new 2025–2028 Strategic Plan and continue our work challenging injustice and expanding access to justice across Scotland.

LSA is one of Scotland's leading law centres, with more than 30 years' experience providing legal advice and representation to those facing poverty, disadvantage and discrimination. Alongside our legal services, we play a significant role in legal education, research, policy development and training, helping to improve access to justice and advance social justice across Scotland.

We are seeking new Trustees who share our commitment to social justice and who can bring a diverse range of skills, experiences and perspectives to our Board. Our current Board includes expertise in human rights, legal practice, communications, public affairs, academia, governance, operational risk and the voluntary sector. As part of our ongoing Board development and succession planning, we are particularly interested in recruiting individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Finance, accountancy, audit or financial management
• Cyber security, information governance or digital risk management
• Artificial intelligence, digital transformation or technology strategy or governance
• Lived experience of the issues affecting the communities we serve, including poverty, disability, discrimination, migration, housing insecurity or barriers to accessing justice
• Fundraising, income generation or social enterprise development
• HR, organisational development and people management
• Senior leadership, governance or organisational transformation experience
• Fundraising, income generation or business development

We would also be pleased to hear from applicants who might, over time, wish to contribute to Board leadership roles — including Treasurer or Chair — as part of our ongoing succession planning.

You may be a professional with specialist expertise, a community leader, someone with lived experience of the challenges facing our service users, or an individual looking to contribute your skills to a cause you care deeply about. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve and provides effective governance for our complex and impactful work.

Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to contribute are the most important qualities. Previous Trustee or Board experience is not essential. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will provide induction, support and training to help you succeed in the role.

The role of Trustee is voluntary and unpaid, but many of our Trustees find it personally and professionally rewarding. Reasonable expenses incurred while undertaking Trustee duties will be reimbursed. Trustees are encouraged to participate in Board Sub-Committees, attend LSA’s AGM and Strategic Development Day, and contribute to the organisation's strategic direction. The Board meets approximately six times each year, with Sub-Committees meeting between Board meetings.
