Human Rights Day 2022

10th December was Human Rights Day, a day to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This document sets out fundamental human rights which are to be universally protected. Although not binding, more than 60 human rights documents have developed based on the UDHR. Human Rights Day 2022 marks the beginning of a yearlong campaign by the United Nations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UDHR on 10th December 2023.

This year’s slogan is “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All”, reminding us to #StandUp4HumanRights. The importance of the rights that the UDHR commits nations to uphold, regardless of a person’s “nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language” cannot be underestimated, and we strive to ensure that our work at LSA reflects this. It serves as a reminder of the struggles people face around the world, and indeed in our own communities. We are dedicated to upholding the rights of those in our community through our housing, employment, mental health, disability and environmental work. Through addressing unmet legal need, we make sure that everyone has equal access to justice and equal opportunity to have their voice heard, regardless of their situation.

We will continue to uphold and celebrate our clients’ rights, especially as we approach the 75th Anniversary of the UDHR.
