LSA Host ‘Rights in Reach’ Session at National Homelessness Conference

Last week, Legal Services Agency (LSA) was pleased to host a breakout session at Scotland’s Annual Homelessness Conference, It’s Personal: The Human Face of the Housing Emergency, organised by Homeless Network Scotland in partnership with the Salvation Army.

Our session, ‘Rights in Reach: Enabling Legal Literacy’, explored the crucial role that understanding and exercising rights plays in combatting homelessness and inequality. In the session, we unpacked how legal literacy enables people navigating services – and the organisations supporting them – to challenge barriers and delays to exercising their rights.

Participants engaged with case studies and quizzes, which enabled them to learn how to assert rights in housing, social security, and social care contexts via practical examples. Together, we explored systemic changes needed to make rights accessible, ensuring people facing homelessness are respected and in control.

Legal Services Agency extends our thanks to Homeless Network Scotland for organising this vital event and facilitating the delivery of our workshop. It is our hope that the conference will set in motion a path to a better future, where legal rights drive equal solutions to Scotland’s housing emergency.
