Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 Update

The Children`s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 makes major changes to the operation of the Children`s Hearings System.  There are significant changes to legal aid provisions as they currently stand.  The 2011 Act introduces a Registration scheme, an associated duty system and a Code of Practice including a a scheme for quality assurance for solicitors who are paid under the children`s legal assistance scheme.

Solicitors and firms wanting to provide children`s legal assistance require to be registered with the Board to comply with the Code.

After 24th June 2013 it will not be possible to provide children`s legal assistance unless you are included in the Children`s Register.

Legal Services Agency are holding an essential practical update on the Children`s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 on 21st June 2013.

This event will update delegates on the changes to the Act and anticipate any difficulties it may pose.  A range of experts in this particular field will be presenting including Sheriff Alan D. Miller and Professor Kenneth Norrie.
