LSA’s Women and Young Persons’ Department provides advice for refugee and migrant women, children and young people across Scotland.
It comprises two projects.
The Women’s Project provides legal advice and representation for refugee and migrant women and children who have experienced gender based violence. Issues dealt with include claiming asylum/international protection, immigration status, access to safe accommodation and the National Referral Mechanism among others.
The Young Persons’ Project provides legal advice and representation for anyone under 25 years of age from abroad. The issues dealt with include asylum and immigration, support (such as somewhere safe to stay and living costs) education, protection from abuse, social work and the children’s hearings system, homelessness and housing, rights to work and rights in work.

These unique Scottish wide services provide intensive advice and representation through all relevant courts and tribunals.
LSA is very pleased to announce that Comic Relief recently provided increased support to the department so it may take forward its vital work in these complex areas.
We see this as a clear acknowledgement of the great work of the department.
